What I can take off your plate

I bring nine years of hands-on HR experience to the people side of your business, so you can focus on running it. You choose a monthly package of hours, and we agree together what they're used for. Bigger or less predictable jobs, or anything beyond your monthly hours, are Extras, agreed with you first. If you only need one job done, such as writing all your policies, there's no need for a package. I'll give you an estimate of the hours first and charge my hourly rate for the time it takes, and if it looks like running over, I'll tell you before I go on.

These are examples, not a fixed menu. We choose the tasks that fit your business, and we can change them as you go.See how the monthly packages work

Get organised

Policies and handbook

Your handbook and policies, ready to share with your team

  • An employee handbook written from scratch, or your current one brought up to date
  • Written using the official guidance on GOV.UK and ACAS alongside the way your business works, with a review date on each policy
  • Plain English, so your team will read and understand them
  • You sign off the final version, since you know your business best

Policies I can help with include:

  • Everyday: annual leave, sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance, flexible working, hybrid and remote working, IT, email and social media use
  • Fairness at work: equality, diversity and inclusion, bullying and harassment, whistleblowing
  • Family and leave: maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental and neonatal care leave, time off for dependants, carer's leave, compassionate and bereavement leave
  • Wellbeing: menopause, wellbeing and mental health

Employment law changes

Employment law keeps changing, and your documents need to keep up

  • Official updates from GOV.UK and ACAS followed, so you don't have to
  • A heads-up when a change affects your contracts, policies or handbook
  • Your documents updated to match, with a review date on each one

HR health check

An honest review of your paperwork and processes

  • A look through the documents and processes you have now, shared with me online
  • A written summary of what's in good shape and what's been missed
  • A list of what to tackle first, so you know where to start

Employee records

Your employee records sorted, complete and easy to find

  • Everything gathered into one organised set of records
  • Gaps found and filled, so each record is complete
  • A retention schedule, so you know how long to keep each kind of record and when it can go
  • Old records you no longer need cleared out, rather than kept just in case
  • Online files and folders sorted remotely, wherever you are. Paper files can be sorted on a visit if you're within 10 miles of Great Bookham, Leatherhead

HR systems support

I've used HiBob and iTrent as an administrator, and I'm happy to learn others

  • Your system set up properly, with your people and records in it
  • Help using it day to day, so it works for you rather than against you

From hiring to leaving

Recruitment support

Hiring kept moving, without taking over your week

  • Job adverts written with you
  • Applications kept track of, so nobody is left waiting to hear back
  • Interviews scheduled, and the diary juggling taken off your hands
  • Offer letters and contracts of employment prepared from the terms you've agreed, ready for you to sign

Right to work and DBS checks

The checks you need before someone starts, organised and on record

  • Pre-employment paperwork gathered and checked off before someone starts
  • Help carrying out right to work checks
  • Basic, standard or enhanced DBS checks, depending on the role. You decide which check each role needs, and I follow the official GOV.UK guidance
  • Help with DBS checks whichever way you do them, through GOV.UK, an online checking service or on paper, and help getting set up with an online checking service if you'd like one
  • A record of each check, kept with the rest of your employee records

Onboarding

Everything ready before your new starter arrives

  • A welcome pack, so your new starter knows what to expect
  • Starter paperwork prepared
  • A first-week plan, so they feel looked after from day one

Probation

Every probation review kept on track, from start date to final review

  • Probation end dates tracked for everyone
  • A reminder before each review is due, so they stop slipping down the list
  • Review paperwork ready, so nobody is left wondering how they're doing

Offboarding

Calm, organised support when someone leaves, so nothing is missed

  • A leaver checklist, from the resignation letter to the last day
  • Exit paperwork prepared
  • Exit survey or exit interview questions prepared, so you can learn why people leave
  • Records tidied up and closed off properly

Look after your team day to day

Employee changes

What you've agreed, put in writing

  • Letters prepared for a change to pay, hours or job title
  • Records updated at the same time, so they always match

Family leave

Dates, paperwork and conversations kept organised, so it feels calm for you and for them

  • Key dates worked out and tracked, from the first conversation to the return
  • Letters and paperwork prepared at each stage
  • Keeping-in-touch days and the return to work planned ahead

Absence and wellbeing

Sickness absence tracked and managed with care

  • Absence tracking, so it doesn't quietly add up with nobody keeping an eye on it
  • Return-to-work paperwork ready when someone comes back, with a risk assessment if they're returning after an injury, illness or operation
  • A consistent way of checking in, so everyone is treated the same

Benefits

Support to keep your employee benefits up to date

  • Joiner and leaver details gathered and checked, ready for you or your provider to update
  • Reminders and a checklist, so nothing gets missed

Internal comms

Clear, well-timed updates for your team

  • Team updates written in a friendly style
  • Sent out on time, rather than in a hurry or not at all

Keep on top of it

People reporting

Figures you can read in five minutes

  • Headcount, absence and turnover figures, put together as often as you need them
  • Anything worth your attention pointed out, rather than buried in a spreadsheet
  • Themes and trends in your people data spotted early, such as rising absence or turnover in one team
  • Employee engagement surveys set up, with the results summarised for you

General admin

An extra pair of hands for general admin when you need it

  • The day-to-day admin tasks nobody else has time for
  • Part of your monthly hours, alongside your HR tasks

When things get tricky

Everything in this section is an Extra, on top of your package. These jobs are hard to predict, so we agree the time or a fixed price with you first.

Informal mediation

Help before an issue becomes formal

  • A calm, informal conversation early on, with everyone given the chance to be heard
  • Agreed next steps all documented, so everyone knows where things stand

Grievances and disciplinaries

Support through a formal grievance or disciplinary, following the ACAS Code of Practice step by step, so the process is fair

  • The process planned out with you, one stage at a time
  • Letters prepared for each stage, from the invitation to the outcome
  • Notes taken at meetings, and a clear record kept
  • The decisions stay yours, and I help you follow the right process to reach them

Redundancy support

The practical side of a redundancy process, following the official ACAS guidance

  • A timeline for the process, so each step happens in the right order
  • Consultation letters and meeting notes prepared
  • Records kept clearly, from the first announcement to the last day
  • Whether to make roles redundant, and the legal side, stays with you and your solicitor

When you'll need a specialist

I'm clear about where my work stops, so you always get the right help. Employment law advice, tribunals, TUPE, immigration and sponsor licences, tax advice and counselling are all best handled by specialists. I don't advise on pensions or do any pensions admin, so that stays with your payroll or pensions provider. Finding candidates stays with you or a recruiter, and I'm happy to run the process around your hiring.

You don't need an HR department. You need someone who takes the people work off your plate and does it properly

Let's have a chat.
